Overview

In almost all worship seating orders, you are asked to give a substantial deposit to any manufacturer in order to place the order. In addition, a warranty is only as good as long as the manufacturer in is business. How can you know what to expect? It’s simple. Do your homework.

First, after you narrow your search to two or three suppliers, get a financial report. These are available from Dunn and Bradstreet on their Web site for a modest fee. Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish—buy the reports.

Second, ask the manufacturer to supply their bank reference and arrange for the bank officer to confirm a good relationship. You do not need to know balances, only that the company is in good standing.

Third, Check with the Better Business Bureau. They will keep reports on any company ofsubstance.

Fourth, ask for a complete list of installations in your area. Then, contact their customers at random. Do not accept two or three names. Get a list of several, and then choose who to contact.

Fifth, ask if you can visit the manufacturing plant. You do not have to visit, but if they say no, avoid them.

Sixth, understand that a large company will be able to handle your order more efficiently and professionally in most cases than a smaller company. Ask how many orders they fill each year/month or the total number they have done. In the church furnishings business, companies depend heavily on a good name, word of mouth and an excellent reputation. Those who do what they are supposed to will find their business has grown. Those who
do not, remain small (or close).

Seventh, visit several installations. Yes, it is not often convenient, but do it anyway. Budget for a couple of church representatives to travel and see installations, and interview past customers.
