When I think about children and youth ministries, this verse immediately pops into my head: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22: 6).

As a church leader, you are critically involved in the future of your youth, helping them become Christian adults. We've heard from you guys what a critical ministry this is in your church, and this is our first issue that features the Children/Youth theme. You'll see that we've devoted a section of the magazine to this subject, featuring articles on how to reach this important generation and some red-hot trends in this ministry.

I heard John Croyle speak recently about equipping children and youth for their life journeys. Croyle is the founder and executive director of the Big Oak Ranch, which is a renowned Alabama-based Christian home for children needing a chance.

Croyle explained the concept of packing a child's "suitcase" for life, with the suitcase opening at birth and closing at age 18. He said that parents—and likewise, other influential people in a young person's life, such as pastors and youth ministers—need to fill this suitcase during this time with important tools and lessons to prepare children for their roads ahead.

So, I leave you with this: Guide the children and youth in your care to become great gifts to God. Assist their parents in packing their suitcases for life. And, allow us help you, along the way, choose the products and services to best equip your church, enrich your youth, and fulfill your mission.

I'm always interested in hearing from you. You can reach me at jill@rpnmag.com.

God Bless,
