Dec 2008 Letter from the Editor
By: Jill Pinheiro As we close out 2008, how has the economy affected your church operations this year? How has it impacted stewardship, tithing, budgets, and fundraising? The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America recently released stewardship tips for congregations in a time of financial crisis. Ed Kruse, ELCA’s director for stewardship, passed along a few points of advice for churches who want to “want to grow a culture of generosity.” * Don’t ignore the economic downturn and don’t panic. * Transform spending habits. * Stay on a percentage giving plan. * Take a creative approach to stewardship. “Financial downturns create uncertainty and fear,” he said. “But generosity has never been a matter of how much money we have. A reduction of income simply does not affect the spirit of generosity in one's heart. We do not give because we have to but because we have grateful hearts to God in Christ.” What is your church’s game plan when financial times are tight? On a final note, it’s that time again for our Hot Products and Services edition. Starting on page 34, we bring you 66 of the products and services that caught our eye this year. It’s our favorite way to end each year, passing along the “best of the best” in keeping with our mission to help you operate more effectively and efficiently. Thank you again for another great year. We look forward to continuing to serve as your one-stop purchasing solution for your worship facility. I’m always interested in hearing from you. Drop me a note and let me know what you’d like to see within these pages in 2009. You can reach me at jill@rpnmag.com. God Bless, Jill Pinheiro |
