Keeping the Faith

An installer turned to CHAUVET for inspiration when he learned just two weeks prior to a Texas church installation that the lighting he specified was unavailable.

“When it came to crunch time, CHAUVET came through for us,” said Travis Scharn, salesman for NLFX Professional, based in northern Minnesota. “And, it turned out even better than what we would have had.”

Scharn’s client, the Creekside Christian Fellowship in Needville, Texas, was the first to install CHAUVET’s new LED PAR 64-36 lights.

The LED PAR 64-36 features high-power color mixing with 36 red, green, and blue LEDs. It produces a bright, narrow beam that is ideal when a concentrated light is needed to highlight smaller areas or objects.

Scharn said the pastor frequently uses props during his sermons, so the LED PAR 64-36 was a perfect fit.

The order also included four Q-wash LED 36 moving yokes, each fitted with 36 1-watt LEDs to deliver a rich wash with full RGB mixing capabilities. A ShowXpress controller to program and operate the lights rounded out the gear list.

The church held its first service on May 17, but Scharn said he had been working with the non-denominational congregation for more than a year.

“This is the first stage of the project,” he said. “They also plan to build a permanent sanctuary and a gymnasium. And, this first building will become a multi-purpose room between the gym and the sanctuary.”

Scharn flew to Texas three weeks before the installation. When he learned, a week later, that his lights would not be available, he called his boss. Ben Stowe, owner of NLFX, then called CHAUVET in a panic.

The order was shipped immediately and the installation went smoothly with the crew putting in long hours, according to Scharn.

“The church is happy with the ease of the system to program and run,” he added. “They will move this system, which is synchronized with music and video, into the sanctuary when it is built.”

Scharn said there’s nothing like this lighting system in Needville, located in southeastern Texas with a population of 2,600. So, the community is taking full advantage of the state-of-the-art system with community concerts and youth events along with Sunday services.
And, NLFX will see the church through its next two stages.

“You bet we will be involved in that,” Scharn said.
