Why Does My Church Need an Entrance Mat?
By: Brenton Taussig
As a member of the Board of Trustees at the First Congregational Church in Hudson, Ohio, I understand how important it is to keep our church looking sharp.
As a business owner, I understand how important it is to keep the floors dry while also keeping customers and employees safe. In my experience, I have helped over 67,000 churches since 1981 with all their commercial matting needs.
Every facility needs to protect their floors, no matter what kind of environment – dirt, mud, sand, rain, snow, and salt, etc. Entrance mats make sure your facility is safe and the moisture stays on the mats, preventing slips and falls.
In addition, a quality door mat will reduce the cleaning time and expense, as the mats are designed to "trap" moisture and dirt and keep this off of your floors.
There are three categories of mats that you may need for your church, the most important being a carpet top mat.
The highest quality, longest lasting include any Aquasorb Floor mats, which have bi-level construction, designed to prevent the surface from crushing down and wearing out.
This type of design also filters the dirt and moisture below the surface of the mat. Aquasorb mats will last longer and perform better trapping dirt and moisture than any other entryway mat on the market.
In addition, they come with a cleated backing to prevent the mats from moving around. If price is an issue, choose a quality vinyl backed mat. These mats will trap moisture and dirt but are not as durable as a rubber backed mat.
The second category includes outdoor mats, which are made almost exclusively of rubber made to stand up to all kinds of weather conditions outside. They typically come in only black and are the first line of defense against snow, mud, and water. These "scraper" mats are most often called a "Super Scrape" or "Shoe-Scraper" mat and are recommended but not required.
Logo mats are the third category of entrance mats and are a wonderful addition to your facility, allowing you to proudly display your church logo, tagline, or even a photo realistic image on a high-definition logo mat.
Some of the mats give you a choice of colors, while others mats can match very closely to the colors you choose. There are indoor logo mats, heavier duty bi-level constructed logo mats, and outdoor logo mats. Choose the one that fits your needs.
A few more important points:
Purchase the highest quality mat, such as an Aquasorb mat, that will do a better job protecting your facility and save you money in the long run by lasting 2 to 3 times as long as cheaper quality mats.
The minimum size floor mat that is recommended is 10 feet, enough for 3 to 4 steps. Measure your area first to make sure you purchase the right size mat.
Save money by purchasing instead of renting – pay to own you mat within approximately 6 months of rental fees. Any Aquasorb mat will last a minimum of 3 years and sometimes longer than 5 years. In addition, you get a much higher quality mat.
