When Cornerstone Church in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, reached out to HSH Collective, they had one clear goal: to transform their nursery into a space that was safe, functional, and welcoming for both kids and parents.

The HSH team got to work blending architectural design and interior design to create a nursery that is playful, practical, and designed to grow with little ones.

The old nursery had the basics, but it was simple and a little outdated. It was missing those special touches that make families feel excited about dropping their kids off.

That’s where the HSH team stepped in. Using CAD drawings, their architectural designer created and mapped out every detail before the first piece of wood was cut.

Once the plans were approved, it was time to bring the design to life, with special features including:

Custom Built Reading Corner: Two custom wooden trees double as bookshelves and cozy seating.

Hanging Swings: Soft, 100% cotton rope swings with a five-point harness keep babies safe and parents worry-free.

Custom Cabinets and Storage: Progressive Cabinetry built clean, modern cabinets with colorful knobs and open shelving so toys and supplies could finally have a home.

Playful Walls: The walls were designed with soft curves and leafy shapes, tying back to stories of growth and creation. The colors are calm for babies but still bright enough to keep toddlers engaged.

Once the architectural pieces were in place, the interior design team added the finishing touches:

  • Cushions and throw pillows on the tree seating to make it extra cozy
  • A pull-up bar that gave toddlers a safe way to practice standing and climbing
  • Arched chalkboard (that’s also magnetic!) where kids can draw, stick magnets, and play pretend
  • Rugs and soft furnishings that make the room warm, inviting, and safe for crawlers

“The artwork in the hallways of this wing was inspired by a children’s Bible that each newborn in the congregation is given,” said Jessica Holmes Holiday, HSH founder and principal interior designer. “The illustrations are fantastic, so we got permission from the artist and blew up the posts from the Bible to use as artwork on the walls. When you’re walking in these hallways, you truly feel like you’re walking through the pages of that Bible!”

Designing a church nursery isn’t just about picking out cute furniture and paint colors. It’s about creating a space that really works for kids, parents, and volunteers.

HSH Collective offers both architectural design services and in-house interior design, www.hshcollective.com. Their team works side by side from start to finish, making sure everything feels connected and no detail slips through the cracks.
