March 2011 Editor's Letter
By: Jill Hasty

How "green" is your worship facility? What are you doing to make your church as environmentally friendly as possible?

I recently read an article, courtesy of NACBA, about Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas, being awarded LEED Silver certification. It's the first sanctuary in Texas to receive this award.

To achieve this distinction, a building's performance is rated by the U.S. Green Building Council in five areas:

* Sustainable site design

* Water efficiency

* Energy efficiency

* Materials selection

* Indoor environmental quality

"Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, chief executive officer, and founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. "The Christ United Methodist Church project efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come."

We're proud to present another edition of our Buyer's Guide, a comprehensive resource for church products and services. I think you'll find many of the companies within this guide provide a "green" aspect to their offerings, in an effort to help your church be good stewards of the environment.

I'm always interested in hearing from you. You can reach me at jill@rpnmag.com.

God Bless,

Correction to source of church transportation safety information in January issue
In January, we ran an article titled "The Road to Safer Church Transportation" that was attributed to the Bus Group. The article—and the Church Mutual Protection Series booklet from which it came—is copyrighted property of Church Mutual Insurance Company, Merrill, Wisconsin. You can read the entire booklet, "The Road to Safer Transportation," at www.churchmutual.com/transport.
