Open the Doors to Safety

Does safety truly come first in your facility?

Did you know that fingers are the No. 1 injured body parts, with over 300,00 reported injures worldwide per year and an estimated 15,000 yearly amputations in the US alone, with the average lawsuit settlement of $725,000, which entailed no finger loss. Like any and all insurance policies, it is simply better to be insured then not to be, correct? So, why would you not cover the unprotected gap created at door jams?

There is a simple safety solution to covering the gap: door-hinge guards. They cover the hazardous gap created at the door opening, preventing unintentional injuries to innocent children's hands and fingers.

There are thousands of documented cases where children have had their fingers' severely damaged, even amputated, as a result of unprotected doors. Apart from the obvious immediate excruciating pain and suffering door injuries inflict, the injuries can very often lead to lifetime afflictions or handicaps, preventing these children from pursuing certain careers.

The National Safety Council refers to an incident such as finger and hand injuries sustained from a door pinching as an "unintentional injury" rather than "accident." The term "accident" would indicate it was unavoidable and unexpected; but, in fact, most injuries are preventable.

Sadly, it is not a matter of IF, but WHEN an innocent child will get their precious finger(s) pinched or jammed in an unprotected door. Most childcare environments install safety devices on cupboard doors, stovetops and electrical outlets, as well as smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, but often neglect door openings. Parents, teachers, caregivers, day care, and administrators can better safeguard loved ones by installing important safety products, like the door-hinge guards guard, creating a safer place to live, work, and play. The installation of the door-hinge guards will assure your patrons that your facility is committed to the safety of others entrusted in your care.

When choosing a care facility, the first question that should be answered is what type of safety features the facility has installed that ensure the safety of your loved one while they are in entrusted in their care. Ask what safety precautions have been put in place. Does the owner or administrator know about door-hinge guards? If they have not installed finger shields as of yet, let it be known that door hinge guards are a safety device that should seriously be considered.
